Mobile access

Organizations have the added convenience of accessing the online platform not only via computer but also through their mobile devices. Likewise, applicants can use their mobile device to submit their criminal record check application, ensuring accessibility and flexibility for all users.

Enhancements to the applicant process

The online criminal record check form uses the BC Services Card Login to verify an applicant’s identity. The BC Services Card Login is a secure and easy way to prove who you are when accessing government services online.

Learn how to set up the BC Services Card Login.

If you live in another Canadian province or territory and do not have a physical BC Services Card, you can still set up the BC Services Card Login and submit an online criminal record check. You will need two pieces of government-issued ID to verify your identity.

If you live outside of Canada, or choose not to use the BC Services Card Login, you can still submit a criminal record check online:

  • The organization will be notified and will verify your ID through the organization platform or via email.
  • An authorized person will confirm your ID and the criminal record check will be automatically submitted for processing.

New organization process

The new platform will:

  • Reduce application processing time
  • Replace manual paperwork and current PDF forms
  • Provide 24/7 online access

Authorized contacts

Organizations will be able to manage their authorized contacts directly in the online platform. Primary authorized contacts can send an invitation link to other authorized contacts to activate their access to the platform. Before the invitation is sent out, the primary authorized contact must ensure that the additional contacts are set up with their own BCeID log in credentials.

Criminal record check invitations

Organizations can send individual invites to applicants to submit their criminal record check online directly using the online platform. Organizations that submit a high volume of criminal record checks may also share their unique access code and secure link with applicants to submit their criminal record checks online.

Payments

Organizations can choose whether the applicant or organization pays the criminal record check fee. Payor default can be set in the organization’s profile using the online platform. Alternatively, the authorized contact has the option to change the payor for a specific CRC using a drop-down field in the CRC invitation sent to applicants.

Payment can be made online through PayBC using VISA, Mastercard, American Express, or VISA Debit. Alternatively, organizations can mail a certified cheque or money order.

Status updates and results

Organizations will be able to see real time application statuses including which applicants' criminal record checks are complete on the online platform. Clearance letters will continue to be emailed to the organization directly.

If an applicant has an eligible clearance to share, they will be provided with the option to consent to sharing that clearance with the organization when completing their CRC online. Your organization can choose to accept the shared clearance, or you can send a new CRC application link to have the applicant complete a new check.

Alerts

The online platform will alert organizations about clearances that are expiring soon and provide an easy renewal process.

Reports

The platform will automatically generate monthly statements that include all criminal record checks in PDF format.

Get your organization ready

Criminal record checks in progress will not be affected when the new platform goes live.

To access the full benefits of the new CRRP online platform, each authorized contact requires their own BCeID user account. This crucial step ensures your organization is prepared for seamless access to the online system.

Step 1: Register a Business BCeID

If your organization already has a Business BCeID profile, skip to Step 2. If not, register for a Business BCeID.

Step 2: Create BCeID user accounts

All your organization's authorized contacts must have individual BCeID user accounts to log in to the new platform. Learn more about authorized contacts.

  1. Search the BCeID business directory to find your organization
  2. Reach out to the appropriate business manager, as listed in the directory, to request the creation of a BCeID user account
  3. Designate primary authorized contacts as Profile or Account Managers

For more assistance on setting up your BCeID user accounts, refer to pg. 18-21 of the Business BCeID Profile and Account Management Guide (PDF).

If your organization can't use the new platform

Criminal record checks in progress will not be affected when the new platform goes live.

If your organization can't use Business BCeID, you won't have access to the new platform. However, you will still experience a streamlined online process by sharing your secure access code and link with applicants. There is no limit on how many applicants can receive the secure access code and link. You will receive notifications via email if action is required such as ID verification.
