The Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) is British Columbia’s lead coordinating agency for all emergency management activities, including preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation.

• Disaster mitigation programs for communities
  Mitigation helps communities reduce the risk of a natural disaster. Many areas of B.C. are at a high risk for wildfire, drought and flooding, and these risks are made worse by climate change. Mitigation efforts can save money compared to the cost of post-disaster recovery.
• Provincial emergency plans
  Multi-agency emergency plans are an important part of ensuring B.C. is prepared for an emergency or disaster. Plans are reviewed and updated regularly to ensure a strategy is in place to address future emergencies and disasters.
• Public safety lifeline volunteers
  Public safety lifeline volunteers are at the heart of emergency response in B.C. Thousands of volunteers across the province lead air and ground searches, help people in motor vehicle accidents, and coordinate services for victims of disasters.
