Producer preparedness is a key part of successful emergency management. The factsheet emergency preparedness tips (PDF, 111KB) contains general information, along with disaster and industry-specific tips that can help you prepare for an emergency event:

Industry-specific guides and templates provide educational materials on various natural and human-caused threats to farms. The guides are an opportunity for all producers to be prepared, to mitigate impacts and to tailor responses that a farm would follow in the event of any such emergency.

Additional association-specific handbooks can are available to help members producers prepare their operations for an emergency. Producers should check in with their association for more information on what level and type of support they may be able to provide.

Maintaining a safe work environment during an emergency

AgSafe supports both large and small employers in B.C. agriculture through outreach, and an active program of education, training and consultation which includes emergency management topics:

Register for the BC Premises Identification (ID) Program

The Premises ID Program gathers information about the location of animals, the types of animals at each location and how to contact individuals responsible for those animals. Premises ID is an important tool for protecting the health and safety of your livestock.

In the event of an emergency, Premises ID information improves the ministry's ability to rapidly contact notify animal owners, contain pest and animal disease outbreaks and more effectively respond to natural disasters like floods or fires. Participation in this program is mandatory for poultry and livestock owners and commingling site operators in BC.
