Definitions

Key Decision: A “Key Decision” is a decision by the ACDF and/or Medical Services Commission whereby an application is denied due to a determination of insufficient medical need. Such a decision results in the ACDF not accepting or considering a “Like-Application” for a period of 18 months from the original application date.

Like-Application:  A “Like-Application” is an application for the same modality or service(s) within the same geographic catchment area.

September 20, 2023

The Advisory Committee on Diagnostic Facilities (ACDF) met on September 20, 2023.

(1) Modality: Polysomnography

  • Catchment Area: Vancouver Health Services Delivery Area
  • The ACDF determined that there is currently insufficient medical need for additional polysomnography capacity in this catchment area and recommended denial of all applications.
  • The Medical Services Commission, at their October 25, 2023, meeting, upheld the ACDF’s denial recommendations.

As such, the ACDF will not accept or consider further applications for polysomnography in the above-noted catchment area until April 24, 2025, (18 months following the MSC meeting where the application was denied due to insufficient medical need), unless the Medical Services Commission determines that capacity for this service has changed in this catchment area and such notice is posted to this website.

  • Catchment Area: Richmond Health Services Delivery Area
  • The ACDF determined that there is currently insufficient medical need for additional polysomnography capacity in this catchment area and recommended denial of the application.
  • The Medical Services Commission, at their January 18, 2023 meeting, upheld the ACDF’s denial recommendation.

As such, the ACDF will not accept or consider further applications for polysomnography in the above-noted catchment area until May 1, 2024 (18 months following the receipt of the original application where denial was recommended due to insufficient medical need), unless the Medical Services Commission determines that capacity for this service has changed in this catchment area and such notice is posted to this website.

  • The ACDF determined that there is currently significant unused capacity within the catchment area and recommended denial of the Radiology application.
  • The Medical Services Commission, at their October 27, 2021 meeting, upheld the ACDF’s denial recommendation

As such, the ACDF will not accept or consider further applications for Radiology in the above-noted catchment area until December 8, 2022 (18 months following receipt of the original application where denial was recommended due to significant unused capacity), unless the Medical Services Commission determines that capacity for this service has changed in this catchment area and such notice is posted to this website.

  • The ACDF determined that there is currently insufficient medical need for additional Radiology capacity in this catchment area and recommended denial of the application.
  • The Medical Services Commission, at their July 28, 2021 meeting, upheld the ACDF’s denial recommendation

As such, the ACDF will not accept or consider further applications for Radiology in the above-noted catchment area until October 5, 2021 (18 months following receipt of the original application where denial was recommended due to no medical need), unless the Medical Services Commission determines that medical need for this service has changed in this catchment area and such notice is posted to this website.
